another auto portrait by cypherx another auto portrait by cypherx
i'll be headed back to work soon so painting won't be as frequent but here's a attempt at a realism self-portrait where I wanted to explore some brushes I never use but in the end used the ones I was familiar with.

I referenced personal photo and tried to make about as real as my digital work gets without going pixel by pixel.

about 5-6 hours most of which was spent trying to get the sketch and underpainting work done.

the shannen doherty similarity was completely not intentional :/

Was the illusion of a fish lens (photography lens) intentional? I think I am in love with this portrait/ID because of how the perspective appears almost warped. It reminds me of the old time portraits done for lockets. Like with the rest of your paintings I love how you blend the red/orange and purples in your skin tones. Your work is so warm and comfy!

Lovely piece and I love the elongated feel to it almost like looking into a water droplet! Your work is beautiful and the color usages are wonderfully done! Thank you so much for sharing! <3

So indescribably beautiful :*

This is likely the most honest and lifelike portrait I've seen from you (and of you). It's refreshing to see a neatly polished work with a rather sober palette (as opposed to the brighter, fuchsia-blue combo that's so ubiquitous in your paintings) for a change. In this way, it's cool that your eyes don't look as blue as in other images.

Also I don't know it it's me, or if it was intentional (or if it's just the shape of your face) but the portrait looks a little elongated; it actually has a nice appeal and works very well.
It looks simple, natural and lovely.

It's very satisfactory and inspiring to see an artist one likes grow with over time and be a witness to that progress, insofar as internet renders it possible. I hope this year brings you motivation to continue growing and push your boundaries in art as well as other aspects of life.

I've several desaturated style paintings... I just personally prefer high saturations in them... Can never tell if you're being backhanded or not ha

eh?? I'm always very frank and maybe even naive in the way I express myself. If you say so because of the face shape remark, well it looks that way to me but not in a bad way & it doesn't take away the fact that you're pretty and I meant it honestly. :S

Oh not that remark.. The forehead was definitely done larger and if I hadn't put that and the slanted makeup on the cheeks I imagine it would have been not so long looking.

And no I really just mean the way you turn a phrase. For instance the saturation comment... I can't tell if you mean you prefer them not that way or not. Or lol the portrait of me you did called "cock-eyed"; couldn't tell if it was cryptically (or not so) saying I am (which I don't think I am but could be!). I wouldn't cite a bunch of times; I know you give full feedback and if you don't like something you say as much (which I think more people should do if it's helpful).

I just genuinely meant I can never tell if you're complimenting me or the reverse. Don't feel bad though; I'm utterly horrid with knowing what someone online means as far as context and feeling goes!

Oh that! Well to tell the truth I am not the kind of person that can pull off that kind of remarks; I think I just lack the guile for it and anybody who knows me in real life will tell you that. It kinda does make me feel me bad that my comments may come across as ill-natured because I try genuinely to celebrate the talents and what I find to be the good in people and rarely ever do/say anything about the "bad" if i didn't think it would help them improve in some way (especially online when you can't really know who is behind the screen). And here on DA I find it pointless to comment on something I don't like, I just ignore it..and many people can't even take criticism properly anyways.

And re - the portrait: Lol! perhaps you wouldn't believe that I actually looked for the word "cock-eyed" in the dictionary right now because back then I took it quite literal to mean something like having distinctively shaped eyes or somesuch. (English NOT being my mother tongue and all). Trust me I find the act of portraiture flattering in itself as I wouldn't have it done it if I didn't admire you in some fashion or believed you attractive enough to paint you! :P

Oh ok! On the first part!

And hahaha - that's awesome on the second - lolol that made my day! Didn't know English wasn't your first language... One would never guess! So you don't see me as [link] then : D really glad for that

Ok then well since I've got that all clear (so glad I mentioned I would always wonder!) I'm good... I'll try to keep improving as best I can

Yeah we're cool... I shared the story with a few of my friend's :)
